My Carving History & Inspiration

My Carving History & Inspiration

As a woodcarving artist, I have been creating one-of-a-kind pieces for over 40 years. My understanding of wildlife, gained through hiking, backpacking, fishing, sailing, and skiing, serves as the inspiration for every carving, from large-scale decoys to the smallest angels. It was this amalgamation of my appreciation for the outdoors and my natural artistic ability that led me to this truly traditional art form.

Having undertaken the craft of woodcarving solely by myself, my work is presented with meticulous care. I carve, paint, and sign each carving. Having received many awards for my carvings throughout my journey, including a ribbon at prestigious shows such as the Ward Foundation Decoy Show of Maryland and awards from the Mystic Maritime International Art Show, the Globe Photography Contest, the Connecticut Wildfowl Decoy Carving Competition, and the Kittery Woodcarving Show of Kittery, I believe that my passion and dedication bring something truly unique to this art form.

Every piece of art by David Lazzaro tells a story, a story that draws inspiration from commonplace events in the natural world. His passion for wildlife, acquired through a lifetime of observations, combined with his artistic ability, creates masterpieces that will be cherished for life.
